The foundation stone for the college building (Present Premises) was laid down by his excellency C.M.Poonacha, the then Governor of Orissa, on 19.09.81. In July 1984, the college was shifted to the new building having a good premises of 5 acres of land, surrounded by compound wall. The environment of the college is very congenial for higher study of girl students as it is situated in the heart of the town in an educational institution complex. Women's College, Bhanjangar was re-named Savitri Women's College, Bhanjanagar in 1982.
The college was accorded with provisional Govt. concurrence and University Affiliation for Intermediate Arts Stream from the session 1981-82. Subsequently during 1988-89, it has got Govt. concurrence and Affiliation of CHSE, Orissa for opening of Science Stream at +2 stage. However, since 1986-87 the college obtained Govt. concurrence and University Affiliation for Three Year Degree Course in Arts since 1991-92 for three Honours subjects, i.e., History, Oriya and Political Science & Home Science Hons. from the academic session i.e. 2004-05.
Presently, the college is registered under 2F and 12B of UGC Act, 1956 and starting from the Seventh Plan period it has been receiving financial assistance from the UGC for its different development projects. The college is marching ahead with its overall development by the financial assistance received from other quarters as well, such as, MP LAD fund, MLA LAD fund etc.
The college is proud of its competent and sincere teachers some of them have been awarded Ph.D and M.Phil Degrees and many more are engaged in Research Work. It is a premier and ideal women institution imparting higher education to the women folk of Bhanjanagar sub-division.
Though the college is going to be completed 25 years, still it is in its infancy so far as its infra-structure is concerned. It needs the co-operation, sympathy, good-will and sincere effort of the Governing Body especially Sri Bikram Keshari Arukha Hon'ble M.L.A, President Governing Body, Members of Governing Body, local elites, Education Department, UGC and other high officials to make it a full-fledged and worthy institution to cater the needs of the locality.
